AGM Reminder

A reminder that the Annual General Meeting of the Stonesfield Community Pub Ltd will be held at 5pm at Stonesfield Village Hall on Sunday 18 May. Please do send any questions in advance to me at steve@backthewhitehorse.com for consideration. Knowing the type of enquiries in advance helps us to prepare more informative answers for you. The minutes will be circulated to members after the meeting, and Craig has kindly agreed to extend his opening hours to 7pm that evening so we can enjoy a drink and a chat in the pub afterwards.

A Creature Feature for The White Horse

A unique village landmark is planned for the garden at The White Horse – a reproduction of the poem Megalosaurus which was written by Simon Armitage, the Poet Laureate. The poem was commissioned by Oxford University Museum of Natural History to mark the bicentenary of the world’s first scientific naming of a dinosaur – Megalosaurus, the remains of which were found in Stonesfield – and features in the Museum’s exhibition Breaking Ground which runs until late September.

The Megalosaurus Society is commissioning a display board for permanent public exhibition which will feature the poem, together with information on the significance of Stonesfield in the history of geology and palaeontology.

If you’d like to be part of this dual celebration of The White Horse’s place in the community and Stonesfield’s heritage by making a donation to the Poem Project, please get in touch with the Chair of The Megalosaurus Society at megsoc25@gmail.com

Alternatively, members of the Society will be present at the AGM and there will be the opportunity to make a donation at the meeting. The Society expresses its thanks in advance for any support shareholders are able to give to this project.

Petition for the Cock Inn at Combe

As you are probably aware, the Cock Inn at Combe (just a couple of miles down the road from the White Horse) has unfortunately gone down a road familiar to the one we travelled, and is now literally a boarded-up pub with no information as to the owner’s long-term intention.

Their supporters have asked if you would add your names to a petition to obtain information as to its future. If you would like to show your support, do add your name here: Petition Cock Inn Action Petition

I look forward to welcoming many of you on 18 May,

All best wishes,

Steve Callaghan

Chairman
