Save the date: Stonesfield will be taking part in the Great British Spring Clean, Sunday 24th March 2019!

Keep Britain Tidy organise an annual nationwide “Great British Spring Clean” campaign to encourage residents and groups to get together to pick litter and to tidy up their local community.

The volume of litter, both in Stonesfield and on the roads in / out of the village, is depressing (and increasing), and hugely detrimental to the environment and wildlife. Therefore, I am pleased to confirm that with the Parish Council’s support, Stonesfield will be part of the Great British Spring Clean campaign next year!

This will be a fantastic opportunity to clean/tidy up the village (and the roads in/out of the village) and be part of a nationwide litter pick event to reduce litter in our villages, towns and countryside. It will also be an opportunity to tidy up other aspects in the village, not just picking litter, such as: cleaning / straightening signs; clearing back hedges; removing weeds from kerbs etc.

I hope to get as many individuals, village groups, organisations etc. involved in this weekend event which will take place in March / April 2019 (exact dates TBC), and I will be proactively contacting our many village committees, groups, organisations with more ideas for their involvement.

In the meantime, please do let me know if you would like to help coordinate our tidy up, volunteer on the day, or get your village group/organisation involved.

We will be working with West Oxfordshire District Council to sort/remove the rubbish we collect. Ensuring, where possible, it is sent for recycling.

This has the potential to be a hugely beneficial event for our community, our village, our environment, and the local wildlife. And I hope you will all take part. More information to follow in the New Year!

With thanks and best wishes,

Jess Huband
